What brought you to Fanshawe?

I had been working a dead-end fast food job for almost 10 years and felt lost thinking about what was next for me. After a particularly hard Christmas season at the mall, I did some soul searching and knew I needed a change. I looked to Fanshawe and found the Developmental Services Worker program.

Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.

Learning about the world of Developmental Services from my professors was definitely the best experience I had. Each of them had a unique perspective from their own experiences and they opened my eyes to so many things I never considered before. They were so passionate that it rubbed off on the students. Our class was very close.

What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?

Fanshawe helped me fulfill my passion of wanting to help people and connected it to the practical skills and knowledge I needed to make it happen. I made tons of connections at school for my professional life. Most importantly, though, I made a group of life-long friends who I never would have met if it weren't for my Fanshawe experience.

What are you up to now?

Now, I work as a full-time, permanent Educational Assistant at Thames Valley District School Board and a casual Direct Support Professional at the Alice Saddy Association. I love both of my jobs and truly don't feel like I'm working a day in my life.
